Thomas "Tommy" Love

Black Creek- Thomas Emmerson “Tommy” Love, age 73, of Black Creek, GA passed away Tuesday, January 7, 2025 at Camellia Health and Rehab while under the care of hospice. Tom was born January 10, 1951 in Savannah, Ga to the late Johnnie Lambert and Edna Mae Barrow Love. He lived in Nahunta before settling in Black Creek. Tom received his Associates of Science from Waycross College in 1980 and his Bachelors of Science in Geology from Georgia Southern University in 1983. In his earlier years, he operated a motor grader and helped construct much of Interstate 95 through Georgia. He was a veteran of both the United States Army and Navy. He retired with the rank of Sergeant First Class from the Georgia Army National Guard and was a United States Navy Seabee with a combined service of over 25 years. In addition to his military career, Tom served in construction management, engineering and inspections and testing for 35 years.

 

Tom was a kind and generous man, always willing to lend a helping hand. He was always a wonderful storyteller. His narrations were often extensive and colorful. Tom had a devoted and loyal soul and loved hunting, fishing, watching tv and snuggling with his dog, Daisy. In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers-in-law, Sandra and Bob James and Louise and Joe Allen and J.M. Sikes and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Billy Love, Johnnie Love, Jr. and his wife Carol and Dottie Love.

 

Tom is survived by his wife of 27 years, Hope Thaxton Love of Black Creek. Tom and his wife, Hope, enjoyed many years of friendship before they were married on November 21, 1998 in Gatlinburg, TN. Other surviving relatives include his brother, Roy Love of Richmond Hill; his sister, Freida Sikes of Richmond Hill and numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews.

 

A memorial service will be held at 2 P.M. Monday, January 20, 2025 in the chapel of Flanders Powell Funeral Home with military honors. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service.
