Mr. Rufus Irvin Baxter, 71, passed away at Memorial Health University Medical Center on Thursday, August 11, 2016. Mr. Baxter was born in Port Wentworth on December 12, 1944 to the late Irvin and Oakie Burkhalter Baxter. He retired as a truck driver with Trailer Bridge, Inc.; enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing golf and most of all spending time with his family.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 45 years, Betty Lynne Baxter and three sisters, JoAnn Hagy, Opal Stierwalt and Bobbie Baxter.
Survivors include two daughters, Martha Page of Port Wentworth and Tabatha Hagan and her husband Coleman “Mark” of Ellabell; brother, Curtis Baxter of FL.; sister, Mary King and her husband Johnny of Rock Hill, SC. and four grandchildren, Michael Baxter and his wife Laurie, Savana Kaufman, Coleman Hagan, Jr. and Deborah Hagan and several nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends from 4 – 6 p.m. on Thursday, August 18, 2016 at Flanders Morrison Funeral Home.
Memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. on Thursday, August 18, 2016 in the Flanders Morrison Funeral Home Chapel.
