Mr. Roger Norman Roush, Sr., 87, passed away at LeConte Medical Center in Sevierville, TN surrounded by his family. Mr. Roush was born in Bellaire, OH on June 23, 1934 to the late Herbert Roush and Eileen Clark Maloney. He graduated from Morehead State University where he received his bachelor’s and master’s degree in music education. Mr. Roush was employed with Coolville High School, Rutland High School, Southeastern High School, Fleming County High School, Claxton High School, Johnson County High School, and finally Bryan County High School. He retired after 42 years of teaching band to many students in all the different schools. After retirement, he continued sharing his love of music by working with Portman's Music Instrument tryouts. He was a member and choir director at Daisy United Methodist Church in Daisy, Georgia. He also played and directed with the Savannah Winds. He was an avid train watcher and spent his retirement building a model train village.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert Roush and Eileen Clark Maloney.He was also preceded in death by his grandmother, Goldie Clark, and his aunt, Norma Clark ,who spent many years taking care of him.
Survivors include his loving wife of 67 years, Ruthlane Fannin Roush; son, Roger Norman Roush, Jr. of Pembroke; three daughters, Vandy Trent and her husband James of Morehead, KY, Vyanne J. Roush of Abilene, TX and Varina R. Moser of Hinesville; 6 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and several cousins including Margie Serafini, of Steubenville, Ohio that was like a sister to him.
Family will receive friends from 12:00 – 2:00 p.m. on Friday, August 6, 2021 at Flanders Powell Funeral Home.
Memorial service will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the Flanders Powell Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Jesse France officiating.
