Robert L. (Bob) Pulliam, 82, died October 26, 2016 under the care of Hospice Savannah.
He was born in Swainsboro, Georgia. He graduated from Mercer University, Washington University and received a Ph.D. in Mental Sciences form Oxford College with seminars at Oxford University, England. Bob retired as Superintendent of Northwest Georgia Regional Hospital in Rome, GA with responsibility for Mental Health Centers of North Georgia. He became a surveyor for the Joint Commission on Hospital Accreditation, working throughout the United States and continued that work as a consultant to hospitals preparing for accreditation. His early work goal of removing the stigma of mental illness and opening the subject to community dialogue earned him the respect of State and National Leaders. His integrity and Christian principles were guiding forces in all decisions.
He is survived by his wife, Martha Ann Brewton Pulliam, sons, Robert Pulliam, Jr. of Savannah, GA and Mark A. Pulliam of Atlanta, GA; two brothers, Earl Pulliam of Palmetto, GA, The Reverend Tommy Pulliam of Millen, GA and one sister, Frances Tillman of Gibson, GA.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 28, 2016 at Flanders Morrison Funeral Home in Pembroke.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Interment will follow at Northside Cemetery.
The family suggests any remembrances be made in his memory to Skidaway Island Baptist Church, 2 Westridge Road, Savannah, GA 31411.
