MSG (Retired) Robert ‘Bobby” Milton Cowart, 86, passed away at his residence on Monday, April 7, 2025. Mr. Cowart was born in Ellabell to the late Carlos Cowart and Lillie Mae Warren Cowart on February 21, 1939. He retired from the U.S. Army after serving over 20 years of service and later worked for the civil service at Fort Stewart for 20 years. Mr. Cowart also served as a bailiff for Bryan County for 12 years and was a longtime member of Grace Independent Methodist Church. He enjoyed traveling, going to bluegrass festivals, hunting and fishing.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, C.E. “Gene” Cowart and sister, Kay DeLoach Martin.
Survivors include his loving wife of 67 years, Joan Crosby Cowart; two daughters, Gwin Baker (Mark) of Richmond Hill and Donna Jo Gilder (Chris) of Pembroke; sister, Jewel Owens of Pembroke; three grandchildren, Kenneth Baker, Jennifer Drake and Derek Smith; great grandchildren, Jared, Mason, Tristan, Adilyn and Karlie.
Visitation will be held on Friday, April 11, 2025 from 10:00 – 12:00 p.m. at Flanders Powell Funeral Home.
Funeral service will follow at 12:00 p.m. in the Flanders Powell Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Dan Bryant officiating.
Burial will be held at Northside Cemetery with full military honors.
