Raymond Oscar Oliver

Mr. Raymond Oscar Oliver, age 70, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, March 15, 2024. He was born in Claxton to the late Oscar Oliver and Jeanette Lamb Oliver on August 30, 1953. Raymond attended Bryan County High School until 9^th grade when he had to quit school to help his daddy take care of their family. He became a meat cutter at Bacon Supermarket in Pembroke where he worked for 12 years. He then joined the International Longshoreman’s Association in 1978 as a welder/mechanic, where he completed 12 years in the ILA before he got hurt and had to retire in 1990. He was an avid hunter and fisherman where he spent many hours in the tree stand and in his boat doing what he loved. His wife was his best friend and his daughter and granddaughters were his pride and joy. 

He is preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Jeanette Oliver; two brothers, Wayne Oliver and Louis Oliver; four sisters, Diane Oliver, Ann Weathers, Lois Page and Annette Andre.

He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Rose Wilson Oliver; daughter, Robin Oliver Parrish and her husband Chris of Pembroke; granddaughter, Whitney Hughes; four step-grandchildren, Brianne Barber, Cheyenne Parrish, C.J. Parrish and Country Parrish; two brothers, Michael Oliver and his wife Karen and Tim Oliver and his wife Frances all of Ellabell; three sisters, Gail Layne of Pembroke; Janice Strickland and her husband Faron of Savannah and Kim Lee and her husband Charles of Groveland and several nieces, nephews and cousins.  

Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 17, 2024 from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. at Flanders Powell Funeral Home. 

Funeral service will be held on Monday, March 18, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. in the Flanders Powell Funeral Home Chapel.

Burial will be private.
