Mrs. Olive Mae Lewis Edwards, 103, died on Sunday, May 15, 2022 surrounded by her family. She was born on October 27, 1918 to the late Jennings and Ethel Avant Lewis in Alachua, FL. She graduated from Alachua High School before moving to Jacksonville where she met her husband, John W. (Bub) Edwards. They married in 1940 and moved to the Ellabell, GA area in 1946. They were married for 63 years.

Olive was a member of the Ellabell United Methodist Church for over seventy-five years. She was a Sunday School teacher in the children’s department for many years. She served on various church committees, was a choir director, a member of the Edith Morgan Circle and the Inez Smith Sunday School Class. The Church honored her with a reception celebrating her 100th birthday on October 27, 2018. Olive was active in the PTA and other school activities when her children were in school. Her hobbies were reading the Bible, growing flowers, working crossword puzzles, genealogy, crocheting and watching the Atlanta Braves. She retired as Postmaster of the Ellabell Post Office.

Olive loved her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed having all of them at her house for family gatherings.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brother, W.H. Lewis; sister, Lillian Mooneyhan; and two sons-in-law, Lewis C. Strickland and Terry A. Ansley.

She is survived by daughters: Janet Strickland of Claxton, Mabel Ansley of Pembroke, Marie (Perry) Bacon of Pembroke and a son, William (Emily) Edwards of Pembroke. She is also survived by eight grandchildren: Michael (Pam) Ansley, Carol (Dannie) Miller, Steve (Sherry) Strickland, Melissa (Jerry) DeLoach, Glenn (Rachel) Bacon, Jeanne (Jason) Watson, Bill (Lori) Edwards and Betsy (Dennis) Watson, and 21 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 18, 2022 from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. at Flanders Powell Funeral Home.

Funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the Flanders Powell Funeral Home Chapel.

Interment will be at Ellabell United Methodist Church Cemetery.
