Pembroke-Mr. Thomas Hoynes Bacon, Sr. , 80 of Pembroke, GA. passed away May 2
nd
after a long illness. He was affectionately known by his family as Au-daddy.
A lifelong resident of Bryan County, he graduated from Bryan County High School in 1950. He later received a Professional Civil Engineer certification from the Georgia Institute of Technology. He was a retired District Construction Engineer with the Georgia Department of Transportation and retired from the Georgia Army National Guard with 24 years of service. He served on the Coastal Georgia Regional Development Center Board, was chairman of the Bryan County Board of Commissioners, and served on the Pembroke Housing and Hospital Authorities. He was a proud member of both the Chatham Artillery and the Savannah Volunteer Guards. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and Bluegrass festivals. Mr. Bacon was a member of the First Baptist Church of Pembroke. He was preceded in death by his parents Albert S. Bacon and Bertie Lanier Bacon, his wife of 50 years Emogene Burnsed Bacon and all six of his siblings.
He is survived by two sons Thomas Hoynes Bacon, Jr. and wife Darlene of Pembroke, and Kurt Carlos Bacon and wife Annette of Barnesville, GA., and one daughter Victoria Elizabeth Stumpf and husband Brian of Alpharetta,GA. He is also survived by six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and one foster son Russell Williams and wife Courtney of McDonough, GA.
Visitation is 6-8 P.M. Saturday May 3, 2014 at the funeral home. Funeral service will be 3 P.M. Sunday May 4, 2014 at First Baptist Church of Pembroke with Dr. Brad Butler officiating. Interment will follow in Northside Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Pembroke Building Fund.
