Pembroke- Mrs. Mary Jane Clark Bowers, age 92 died Thursday morning at Ogeechee Area Hospice. Mrs. Bowers was a resident of Pembroke for over 50 years. She was a graduate of Georgia State College for Women and did her graduate work at Auburn University. Before moving to Pembroke, Mrs. Bowers was a demonstration agent for Georgia Power Company and county extension agent for Telfair County. After moving to Pembroke, she was the home economics teacher at Bryan County High School and taught the first boy's home economics course in the state. She was the former owner and operator of Pembroke Floral Shop and was agent and co-owner and operator of V.P. Bowers Insurance Agency. Mrs. Bowers was a long-time member of Pembroke Christian Church, where she sang in the choir and was past-president of the Christian Women's Fellowship. She was a wonderful cook, traveled extensively as a member of the Georgia Senior's Golf Association and was an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves, Auburn Tigers Football and loved high school basketball. Mrs. Bowers was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Robert "Red" Bowers, parents A. R. and Janie Atwood Clark, Sr. and brother A. R. Clark, Jr.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law Clark and Cindy Lewis Bowers of Statesboro, daughter and son-in-law Connie B. and J. David Everett of Sea Island; sister Patia Lane Wooten of Hazlehurst; four grandchildren Sara Jane and Katie Ann Bowers and Talmadge Clark and Robert Ford Everett; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 1- 2 P.M. Saturday at the funeral home. Funeral service will be 2 P.M. Saturday in the chapel of Flanders Morrison Funeral Home with Rev. Tom Osborne and Rev. Jim Sullivan assisting. Interment will follow in Northside Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Pembroke Christian Church, P. O.
