Ellabell- Mrs. Lawana Kaye Durden Thigpen, age 59 died Thursday evening, August 30, 2012 after an extended illness, while surrounded by her family. Mrs. Thigpen was a homemaker and long-time member of Holy Church of God at Black Creek. She loved to sing,was an excellent cook, enjoyed arranging flowers, but most of all, enjoyed time with her grandchildren. Mrs. Thigpen was predeceased by her parents John B. and Lanell Rowland Durden.
Survivors include her husband of 42 years James E. Thigpen of Ellabell; son and daughter-in-law Brent and Vanessa Thigpen of Sumter, S.C. two daughters and sons-in-law Robyn and Ricky Mathis of Nevils, Allyson and Mike Rosenberg of Ellabell, brother and sister-in-law Richard and Kay Durden of Richmond Hill; sisters Laura Sikes of Faulkville and Sharon Durden of Sumter, S.C.; grandchildren Caleb and Noah Mathis, Alayna and Bailey Rosenberg and James Garrison Thigpen; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 4-7 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home. Funeral service will be 11 A.M. Monday in the chapel of Flanders Morrison Funeral Home with Pastor Stan Tyson, Dr. Lawrence Butler and Rev. Brent Thigpen officiating. Interment will follow in Northside Cemetery. Flandersmorrisonfuneralhome.com
