Pembroke-Mrs. Joan Powell Shaw age 57 passed away January 31, 2014. Mrs. Shaw was a lifelong resident of Pembroke and retired from Briggs and Stratton after over 12 years. She was an avid reader and loved spending time with her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband William Rabun Shaw, her father Sidney Powell and granddaughter, Arianna Tompkins.
She is survived by her mother Mildred Louise Altman of Pooler, daughters and son-in-law Nelanie "Nesi" Tompkins, and Tabitha and Michael Lauderdale all of Pembroke, brothers Sidney Powell, Jr. of Elizabethtown, TN, Lawrence Robert Powell of Bloomingdale, and Bruce Powell of Manchester, GA, sisters Mary Barber and Brenda Fadden both of Statesboro, Gloria Grizzard of Savannah, and Emily Harrison of Statesboro; six grandchildren Kara and Bridget Burnsed, Makayla and Marissa Bacon, Catelyn Tompkins, and Lilith Lauderdale; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation is 5-8 P.M. Wednesday February 5, 2014 at the funeral home. Funeral service will be 3 P.M. Thursday February 6, 2014 in the chapel of the funeral home with Dr. Lawrence Butler officiating.
