Pembroke- Mary Jeanine Purcell Glisson, age 79 died Sunday evening March 24, 2013 at her residence while surrounded by her family. Mrs. Glisson was a graduate of Berry College having received her bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. Over her 43 year career as a teacher, she taught first grade at Isle of Hope Elementary, Pulaski Elementary, Pathway Day School, Hancock Day School and St. Paul's Day School. Mrs. Glisson was a member of First Baptist Church Pembroke and was a member of the Seasoned Saints. She was a past Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star, was an avid Atlanta Braves fan, and loved her time with her grandchildren. Mrs. Glisson was preceded in death by her husband of over 49 years, Mr. Leon Talmadge Glisson, Jr.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law Brian and Sheila Glisson of Pembroke; daughter and son-in-law Mary Lynn and Corley Zittrouer of Guyton; bother Lamar Purcell of Jacksonville; sister Nell Veale of Savannah; sister-in-law Dessie Glisson Tarver; grandchildren Trey and Monique Miller, Christopher Zittrouer, Blake Glisson, Kayla Zittrouer and Kelsey Zittrouer; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held 6-8 P.M. Tuesday March 26, 2013 at the funeral home. Funeral service will be 11 A.M. Wednesday March 27, 2013 at First Baptist Church Pembroke with Dr. Bradley Butler officiating assisted by Rev. Robert Woodall and Rev. Art Tarver.
