Ellabell-Mr. Gene Edward Willis, Sr. age 71 passed away Wednesday September 26, 2012 at home while surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Willis was a Navy veteran and a Truck Driver for over 50 years having retired from A.G. Boone Trucking out of Charlotte NC. He was recently employed for the past 11 years with Eastern Excavating. He was of the Methodist faith and loved his yard work, gardening, and being with his family. He was predeceased by his parents Jacob and Anne Shuford Willis
He is survived by his wife of 19 years Patricia Newman Willis of Pembroke , son Gene E. Willis, Jr. and wife Kathy of Waxhaw, NC, step-son Kevin Gray (Jennifer) of Pembroke; daughter Shannon Willis of Waxhaw, NC, step-daughter Holly Hughes of Brooklet; sisters Nell Willis Jacobs, Patsy Aycoth, Brenda Herring, and Cindy Broome all of Union County NC, brothers Bob Willis of Pageland SC, Larry and Butch Bell of Union County, NC; granddaughter Shelby Willis of Waxhaw, NC, step-granddaughters Ainsley Hughes of Brooklet, and Addyson Gray of Pembroke, step-grandsons Dylan and Kaleb Hughes of Brooklet, Justin and Austin Gray of Pembroke, step-great granddaughter Presley Hughes of Pembroke and other family members.
Visitation is 2-4 P.M. Thursday September 27, 2012 at the funeral home. Graveside service will be 4 P.M. Thursday September 27, 2012 in Northside Cemetery with Reverend Carol Morgan officiating.
