Ms. Mildred Marie Strickland, 94, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 10, 2018 at Ogeechee Area Hospice. Ms. Strickland was born in Bryan County on April 13, 1924 to the late Ealie Pharis and Mary Rushing Strickland and was a lifetime resident of Pembroke. After graduating from Bryan County High School, she worked at S.H. Kress and Company as a book keeper until retirement. She was a member of Pembroke First Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday School Teacher for the Children, Sunbeams Teacher, Mission Friends Teacher, VBS Teacher and Worker, Young at Heart Group Officer and member of the Gleavers S.S. Class to name a few. She was also a member of the Pembroke Gardening Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Wallace Strickland (Jessie), Henry Strickland (Lois), Leroy Strickland (Ella), Elzie Strickland (Jessie), James Strickland (Edith), and Eddie Strickland (Margaret); sisters, Mary Smith (George), Dorothy Rahn (Fred), Nellie Shuman (Sam) and Stella Thomas.
Survivors include many cherished nieces and nephews. In her later years, she relied on the kindness of close friends (Marie and Buddy Polk) and nieces Evelyn Williams and Doris Fries.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 13, 2018 from 1:00 to 3:00 pm at Flanders Morrison Funeral Home.
Funeral service will follow at 3:00 pm in the Flanders Morrison Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Brad Butler officiating.
Burial will follow at Northside Cemetery.
The family would like to thank her caregivers, Tammy Whitsell, Trudy Thompson and Matama Howard for their special care.
