Mary Ella Lewis

Mary Ella Lewis entered peacefully into the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ early Monday morning, October 23rd in her family home. She has been cared for by her husband of 65 years, James Harry Lewis.

Ella was born a twin to her sister, Lila, on April 21, 1938 at Mary Telfair hospital to Edgar and Evelyn Miles of Pembroke. She graduated from Pembroke High School in 1956 and moved to Savannah where she lived in the YWCA while working in the city. She met James Harry Lewis from Claxton, and were married on June 29, 1958 at the First Baptist Church of Pembroke, Ga in a double-wedding with her twin sister, Lila, who married Durward Blocker. 

She is survived by her husband, Harry Lewis of Pembroke; sons, Mark Lewis of Richmond Hill, & Michael (his wife, Liliana) of Sarasota, Florida; 6 grandchildren - Charity, Faith, Hope, Austin, Demerie, and Dylan; 2 great grandchildren - Taryn and Ruth. She is survived by sister, Lila Blocker; brother, Frank Miles and by many nieces, nephews, family and friends. 

Ella served our Lord as a faithful wife, loving mother and involved ‘Nanna.’ She served various capacities in the local church through the years as a nursery coordinator, deacon’s wife and hospitality. She came to faith in Jesus as a child and was baptized at First Baptist Pembroke, Georgia where she and her husband were faithful members for many years. 

Her life-celebration service will be held on Friday, October 27th at the First Baptist Church of Pembroke, Ga at 11 a.m. Friday, October 27, 2023.  Visitation will be at Flanders Powell Funeral Home in Pembroke on Thursday, October 26th from 6 - 8 p.m.
