Marion Wilson Exley

Marion Wilson Exley was born on January 5. 1936 in Clyo, Ga. and called by God to his heavenly home on October 15, 2024.

Known by his middle name, Wilson, was known by his friends as a kind and warm hearted man. He was a husband, father, and Papa to his family, and a good friend to his neighbors and everyone he knew. He enjoyed the game of golf, and until he began to suffer health problems played almost every day. 

He retired from the Department of Transportation as a Right of Way Specialist in the 5th District, and was a part of the work on Interstate 16 and parkways in Savannah, Ga. He was co-owner and publisher of Bryan County Times and worked along side of his wife, Mary, to provide Bryan County with news for 15 years.

He graduated from high school for the old historic high school, Effingham Academy, and attended Armstrong College in Savannah to enhance his work on the road system of Georgia. When Pembroke began the vision to establish a medical facility in Pembroke and recruit doctors to practice in the area, he served for several years as Chairman of the Hospital Authority, which built a doctor’s office and successfully drew two doctors to work full time in Pembroke. It was the predecessor of the St. joseph’s interest in locating in Pembroke. He served on the Bryan County Industrial Board in its early days, and remained interested in the county’s growth.

He was layleader of Pembroke Methodist Church for over 40 years, and served on many committees. He also served on district and conference committees for many years, He loved his church and church family.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Marion N. Exley and Christine W. Exley, and two deceased brothers, Albert N. Exley and Rickey G. Exley.

He is survived by his wife Mary, of 62 years; his daughters, Sherie Exley Butler (Ray) of Pembroke, and Wendy Exley Seiler (Charles), of Savannah. Four grandchildren, Kara Baker, Zach Blocker, Ethan Butler, and Cecil Seiler. Two great grandchildren, Harper Scott and Rowen Blocker, three sisters, Doris Derrick, Frankie Edwards, and Betty Sue Nease; one brother, Kerry Exley, many other extended family members.

Visitation will be held on Friday, October 18, 2024 at 2:00 pm, one hour before services at 3:00 pm at Grace Methodist (formerly Pembroke Methodist) in Pembroke with Reverend Dan Bryant officiating. 

Burial will follow at Northside Cemetery in Pembroke.
