Mr. Lynwood Barr, 87, passed away on Sunday, April 20, 2025 at Candler Hospital. Mr. Barr was born in Florence, South Carolina on August 16, 1937 to the late Willie Barr and Mildred Freeman Barr. He served his country proudly for over 33 years in the U.S. Navy where he was a member of the Navy Seals, formerly known as UDT, Underwater Demolition Team. He held a masters degree and later worked for U.C. Berkley for 25 years as a principal budget of health science and was also a x-ray technician. Mr. Barr was a member of the South Bay Community Church in Florida and St. James AME in San Jose, California and of the many organizations he was a member of, his most fond was being on the Board of Directors at Notre Dame High School. He enjoyed reading, studying his Bible and taking part in prison ministries. Mr. Barr was a great Christian man, he ran a good race a and completed his journey that every Christian strives for, to see Jesus’ face. He saved peoples lives spiritually and physically through all of his involvement with multiple organizations. Mr. Barr was a wise God-fearing man and sought righteousness and would always give his counsel which made him an effective, yet quiet leader.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Allie Pearl Wilkins Barr; two brothers, Willie Barr and Kenneth Barr and grandson, Allyn Carlos-Barr.

Survivors include one son, Bernard E. Barr of Ellabell; daughter, Victoria Lawson of Live Oak; four brothers, Henry Barr of Georgia, Willie Barr, Jr of South Carolina, Kenneth Barr of Maryland and Sammy Barr of South Carolina; one sister, Jacquelyn Bethea of South Carolina and ten grandchildren, Katherine Campbell, Randy Futrell, Troy Whaley, Jr, Antonio Whaley, Torin Barr, Alexandria Carlos-Barr, Shakia Carlos-Barr, Tirzah Lawon, Danielle Lawson and Joshua Lawson.
