Lucy “Jane” Lanier of Pembroke, GA died on June 6, 2022 at the home of her daughter after an extended illness, surrounded by her family. She was born in the Lanier family home in Pembroke, Georgia on December 31, 1938 to the late Orley F. and Gladys M. Lanier. She was a graduate of Bryan County High School, class of 1956. She was a member of the Ellabell United Methodist Church.
She retired from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District after 28 years of service on numerous army installations across the USA and one tour in Germany. After her retirement, she spent several years as a trolley driver and tour guide in the city of Savannah. She was always captivated by the beauty and history of her beloved Savannah. She thoroughly enjoyed the interaction she had with the people who she had the pleasure of touring around the city. She never met a stranger. Jane also enjoyed traveling, reading anything she could get her hands on, and cooking. Her Christmas (Amish) cookies were a family favorite and cookie making with her grandchildren was a yearly tradition for more than 30 years. She often gifted those she loved with a tin of her cookies each year. You would also be hard pressed to find a more patriotic American than Jane.
“Nana” as she was affectionately known to many, is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Sheryl R. Terkildsen and Lisa J. (Ronn) Shuman all of Pembroke, Georgia. Five grandchildren: Ray (Diana) Malcor of Highlands, CA, Aundrea (Frank) Hernandez of Mont Clair, CA, Meredith S. (Brandon) Barfield of Savannah, GA, Kurt T. (Emily) Shuman of Pembroke, Georgia and Paige S. (Scotty) Flint of Pembroke, Georgia. Four great grandsons: Raymond Malcor and Drayden Malcor of Highlands, CA, Ezra Shuman of Pembroke, GA and Astor Barfield of Savannah, GA. One brother and sister-in-law, Bob (Nancy) Lanier of Mount Pleasant, SC and one sister and brother-in-law, Ellen Lanier (Larry Hile) of Charleston, SC. Several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family would like to express their appreciation for the staff of Kindred Hospice, especially Monica and Wendy, who were so loving and caring to our Nana during her final journey on this earth. Jane requested that in lieu of flowers remembrances be made to the Ellabell United Methodist Church or Kindred Hospice in her memory.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, June 14, 2022 at Northside Cemetery in Pembroke, GA.
Flanders Powell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for Lucy “Jane” Lanier.
