Mr. Lucius Billy “Gabby” Butler, 81, passed away Sunday morning at Camellia Nursing Home. Mr. Butler was born on February 10, 1934 in Bryan County to the late Virgil and Ruth Shuman Butler. He was Baptist by faith and enjoyed gardening, fishing and mechanic work. Mr. Butler retired from the Department of Transportation after 34 years of service as a foreman.
He is preceded in death by his wife Juanita Weathers Butler; brothers, Jesse Butler, Ervin Butler, Olan Butler, Osborne Butler and Dewey Butler; sisters, Verona Tucker and Mildred Strickland.
Survivors include his son, Ken Butler (Wendy) of Pembroke; step-sons, John Bragg of Eldora, Raymond Hansford (Linda) of Pembroke and Wade Bragg of Savannah; step-daughters, Nancy Robinson (Johnny) of Warner Robins, Diane Newman of Statesboro and Wanda Newman of Pembroke; brother, Hermon Butler of Pembroke; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Monday, November 23, 2015 from 6 – 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at 11 a.m. in the Flanders Morrison Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jeff Spencer officiating.
Burial will follow at Northside Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Ogeechee Area Hospice in Statesboro.
