Ellabell-  Mr. Lee Willard Benson, age 80, passed away Tuesday, April 19, 2022 at his home.  Mr. Benson was born May 3, 1941 in Baxley, GA to the late Otis and Marie Wooten Benson.  Mr. Benson was retired with over 25 years of service as a food broker for the H.J. Heinz Company.  He was a member of the F & AM Roger Lacey Lodge #722 and was a member of the Antique Classic Mobile Unit of the Alee Shrine.  Mr. Benson was an avid fisherman, was accomplished in several Bass Masters tournaments and was a member of First Baptist Church of Blitchton.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Benson was preceded in death by his wife of 25 years, Joyce Marie Thomas Benson; two brothers, Edward Benson and Royce Benson; and four sisters, Joyce Williams, Maudine Ellis Ricks, Vernell Burgess and Lavonia Howell.

Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Nena and Ricky Peoples of Pembroke, Janet and Sammy Chavis of Ellabell and Scheryl and Ernie Mosley of Indianapolis; one brother, O.C. Benson of Savannah; six grandchildren, Christopher Chavis, Michael Chavis, Jeremy  Chavis, Amanda Moore, Miranda Burnsed and Andrew Harrelson; 11 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held 6-8 P.M. Thursday, April 21, 2022 at Flanders Powell Funeral Home.  A graveside service will be held 10 A.M. Friday, April 22, 2022 at Forest Lawn Cemetery with Rev. Darnell Barner officiating.
