Bulloch County-Lawton Duane Smith age 63 passed away Wednesday morning at his home.
Born in Savannah, Ga.,he worked jobs all over the country including The Alaska Pipeline before retiring from Local 188 and served 8 years in the 165th Air National Guard. He attended The Bridge Church in Pembroke.
Duane enjoyed fishing, hunting and in his more recent years was Bulloch county's very own 'American Picker'.
He was predeceased by both of his parents, Rev. Lucious L. Smith and Lillian Gunter Smith of Savannah, Ga., and a brother, Stephen Travis Smith.
Surviving are his companion of 35 years, Diane Smith; two sons, Ben Smith and Ricky (Megan)Williams;two daughters, Rebecca (Clinton) Davis and Kelly DeGracia.
Surviving grandchildren are: Jordan and Jesse Davis of, Daniel Smith, Matthew (Brittany) Smith, Cooper Smith, Sean Smith and Cole Smith, Brianna Williams, Brittany Williams and Angelica DeGracia and one great granddaughter.
Surviving brothers are Gary (Barbara) Smith and Terry (Joni) Smith and one sister, Glenda S.Cason.One sister-in-law Janet Smith and lifelong friend and former wife Evelyn R Smith.
He is also survived by Uncle Wayne (Nancy) Gunter and Aunt Blondean Newman and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Viewing is 6-9 Thursday, September 4, 2014 at the funeral home. Funeral service will be 11 A.M. Friday September 5, 2014 at the Bridge Church in Pembroke with Dr. Lawrence Butler and Reverend Mark Downs officiating. Burial will follow in Lower Black Creek Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 188.
