June Copi

June 8, 1955 — May 31, 2022

Pembroke

June Grace Copi, 66, passed away due to cancer on Tuesday, May 31. Born on June 8, 1955 in Claxton, Ga she was the seventh daughter to Grady and Eunice Bacon. She graduated from Bryan County High School, then received her bachelors and master’s degrees in elementary education from Georgia Southern. She taught for 25 years, with the last 10 in Pre-K in Pembroke.

She met her husband, Ken Copi, on a blind date in Statesboro. They were married a year later on August 15, 1981 and were blessed with 40 years together. Other than three years near Indianapolis, they spent the remaining time in Statesboro, Savannah, and then back to Pembroke for the last 24 years. They were members of Gateway Church in Bloomingdale and enjoyed small group participation.

In 1990 they adopted their son Joseph. Like most children, he was the source of great joy and often great consternation, but the love was constant in all situations. Joseph provided June with a beautiful granddaughter, Leeanne Stokes. The bond between them was extremely strong and June loved being her mentor in all things big and small.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Grady and Eunice Bacon; her oldest brother Harold (Frieda) Bacon, and sisters: Ellen Fiveash (Charles), Florine Wetherington, Patricia Waters, and Shirley Bacon. She is survived by her husband Ken Copi, son Joseph Copi, granddaughter Leeanne Stokes, brothers Perry (Marie) Bacon, Stanley (Kathy) Bacon, Ray (Annette) Bacon, and Roy Bacon, and sisters: Margaret (Cleo) Howell, Brenda Morgan, Francis (Jim) Frost, and Karen (John) McFarland. There are also 31 nieces and nephews.

June loved traveling around the country and also made visits to Europe and New Zealand. One or more of her sisters almost always came along, making these trips even more memorable and enjoyable.
