Mrs. Josie Cowart Joyner, 91, passed away on Friday, October 9, 2015 at Ogeechee Area Hospice. She was born in Bulloch County on December 10, 1923 to the late Ben and Bessie Davis Cowart and moved to Pembroke in 1959. Mrs. Joyner worked as a waitress for 30 years at Cowart’s Cafe, attended Beulah Baptist Church and enjoyed camping, cooking and spending time with her family.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Billy L. Joyner; son, William E. Joyner; sisters, Margaret Strickland and Bertie Dean; brothers, Oscar Cowart, Rex Cowart, WA Cowart, Douglas Cowart and Waymon Cowart.

Survivors include her daughters, Juanita J. Jenkins (David) of Pembroke and Linda J. Kicklighter (Jeriald) of Ellabell; adopted daughter, Kathy Sauls; 8 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren 1 great-great granddaughter; caretakers, Nancy Martinez, Nicki Lee, Connie Lowery Betty Herrington and Alex “Baby Girl” Martinez.

Visitation will be held on Monday, October 12, 2015 at the funeral home from 5 – 8 p.m.

Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at 11 a.m. in the Flanders Morrison Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Dan Bryant officiating.

Burial will follow at Northside Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be: Ray “Turkey” Butler, Gary Jenkins, Rudy Mesorio, Donnie Newman, Jeff Smith, Roy Smith and Billy Sauls.

Honorary Pallbearers will be the Deacons of Beulah Baptist Church and the Beulah Baptist Adult Senior Sunday School.
