John Murray, Jr.

John J. Murray, Jr. age 67 passed away Tuesday, March 3, 2021 at East Georgia Regional Medical Center.  Mr. Murray was born in Pembroke in 1954 to the late John J. Murray, Sr. and Allie Butler Murray.  Mr. John retired as a truckdriver for Pembroke Propane Company and Gann Enterprises with over 32 years of combined service. He was of the Baptist faith and loved fishing and gardening.  Mr. John enjoyed horseback riding, was a member of the Georgia Wranglers Riding Club and was a faithful member of the McDonald’s group in Pembroke. He was dearly loved by his stepchildren and his grandchildren.  In addition to his parents, Mr. John was preceded in death by two infant sons and his sister, Linda Joyce Murray and one brother, Connie Murray.

Survivors include his wife of 27 years, Joan Marie Briggs Murray of Pembroke; one son, John Anthony Murray of Salt Lake City; one sister, Sandra Cason Petree of Chicago; and five grandchildren, Joy Dempsey of Anderson, SC, Julia Dempsey of Anderson, SC, Robert Jencks, Adam Jencks and Nicholas Jencks, all of Exeter, RI.

Visitation will be held 2:00-4:00 P.M. Sunday, March 7, 2021 at Flanders Powell Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be 2:00 P.M. Monday, March 8, 2021 in the Morrison Memorial Chapel with Pastor Stan Tyson officiating.  Interment will follow at Northside Cemetery.
