Ellabell- Mr. John Richard Blitch, Sr. age 64 died Wednesday evening, Jan 25, 2011 at his son's home while surrounded by his family. Mr. Blitch was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Vietnam War and was later stationed in both Korea and Germany. He was a long-time employee of Page Construction, was an avid fisherman, loved NASCAR and was a member of the Methodist Faith. Mr. Blitch was preceded in death by his parents Felt and Maggie Blitch, a brother Ray Blitch and a sister Elizabeth Blitch.
Survivors include one son John Richard Blitch, Jr. and his wife Lynn both of Pembroke; two daughters Vera Blitch Grubbs of Ellabell and Jennifer Parrish of Ellabell; three brothers Roy (Dot) Blitch of Pembroke, Earl Blitch of Seattle, and Cleveland Blitch of Claxton; five sisters Ann Stanley of Glennville, Dorthey (Lester) Wiggins of Pembroke, Linda (Mike) Strickland of Claxton, Glenda (Chuck) Wratchford of Guyton and Rhonda Walden of Newington; eight grandchildren Anthony L. Blitch, Trey Blitch, Robert "Anthony" Blitch, Tanya Blitch, Hunter Grubbs, Makaila Grubbs, Donald Lloyd, and T.J. Cannady; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 5-9 Thursday evening, Jan. 27, 2011 at the funeral home. Funeral service will be 11 A.M. Friday, Jan. 28, 2011 in the chapel of Flanders Morrison Funeral Home with Rev. Jeff Horne officiating assisted by Bro. Grady Sikes. Interment will follow in Ellabell Methodist Cemetery with military honors. Flandersmorrisonfuneralhome.com
