Mr. Joe Elisher Winter, Sr., 93, passed away on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at his residence. Mr. Winter, Sr. was born on October 10, 1923 to the late Rufus M. and Nonie Ellen Williams Winter in Bulloch County. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the 101st Airborne Division and 327th Glider Infantry Regiment during the Battles of Normandy, Rhineland, Central Europe and Belgian where he was wounded later receiving the Purple Heart. Mr. Winter, Sr. was later employed with Union Bag Company for 30 years as a stacker and was the Chief Voter Registrar for Bryan County for 27 years.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Eloise Murphy Winter and wife of 8 years, Joy W. Carter; daughter, Charlotte D. Winter.
He is survived by two sons, Curtis Edward Winter of Pembroke and Joe E. Winter, Jr. and his wife Lisa of Richmond Hill; two daughters, Beth Celeste Hughes of Pembroke and Amy Winter Thompson of Pembroke; two step-children, Jean Adams and her husband Dean and Curtis Carter; 10 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Family will receive friends from 1 -2 p.m. on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at Flanders Morrison Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. in the Flanders Morrison Funeral Home Chapel.
Burial will be private.
