Jasper Clayton "J.C." Tucker

Blitchton-  Mr. Jasper Clayton “J.C.” Tucker, age 95, passed away Friday, June 25, 2021 at Memorial Medical Center from injuries sustained in a car accident.  Mr. Tucker was born in Evans County, GA to the late James Erastus Tucker and Fannie Barrow Tucker.  Mr. J.C. began his career at Galletta Iron Works in the Savannah Shipyard.  He was later a mechanic and shop foreman at the Ford Motor Company in Brooklet and at Duke Ford in Pembroke.  He was owner and operator of J.C. Tucker Wrecker Service and J.C. Tucker Auto Parts.

Mr. Tucker was a founding member of the Bryan County Fire Department and the Blitchton Fire Department and served as a fire fighter since 1972.  Mr. J.C. ran rescue equipment in Bryan, Effingham, and Bulloch County and served as Fire Chief for the Blitchton Fire Department.  Mr. Tucker was still an active firefighter well into his 90s and continued his involvement with the fire department until his death.  Mr. J.C. was a mentor to many and always treated people the way the he wanted to be treated.  In honor of Mr. Tucker’s service to Bryan County, Fire Station #8 in the Bryan County Industrial Park was named after Mr. Tucker.

Mr. Tucker loved to fish in Collins Lake and enjoyed eating out, especially Captain D’s.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Tucker was preceded in death by his wife of over 51 years, Sara Edenfield Tucker; four brothers, Eugene Tucker, Bernice Tucker, Cecil Tucker, and Mallard Tucker  and three sisters, Ruby Carter, Eathle Cameron and Ruthie Tucker.

Although Mr. J.C. and Sara had no children, they were instrumental in the raising of several of Mrs. Sara’s brothers and sisters and a niece and nephew. He is also survived by one brother, Wilton “C.W.” Tucker of Guyton; companion and fishing partner for 20 years, Mandy E. Boyette; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Newman of Stillmore and Mildred Edenfield of Blitchton; brothers-in-law, Edward (Betty Mae) Edenfield of Blitchton and Dee Riner of Columbus, GA, nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held 1-3 P.M. Monday, June 28, 2021 at Flanders Powell Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be held at 3 P.M. Monday, June 28, 2021 in the Morrison Memorial Chapel with interment to follow in Bulloch Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bryan County Volunteer Firefighter Association Fund, Station 1 Headquarters, 15759 GA Hwy 144, Richmond Hill, GA 31324
