Mr. Jason “Jay” Edward Smith, 57, passed away on Monday, July 12, 2021 at Ogeechee Area Hospice surrounded by his family. Mr. Smith was born on October 22, 1963 in Statesboro to John and Mary Ann Barrow Smith. He was employed as a crane mechanic and master rigger with the Operating Engineers Local Union #474, first with Porter Huggins for 10 years and later with Tim’s Crane and Rigging for 18 years. He was a member of Eldora Baptist Church, Racers for Christ, God Speed Ministries and River Bluff Hunting Club formerly Cuyler Hunting Club for 17 years. Mr. Smith enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and drag racing.
He is preceded in death by his father, John Smith.
Survivors include his loving wife of 17 years, Tammie Smith; four sons, Michael Strickland (Sheri) of Stilson, Chris Strickland of Savannah, Cody Collins of Ellabell and Johnny Clifton of Sylvania; two daughters, Jenny Goodwin (Will) of Michigan and Ashley Waters of Savannah; two sisters, Martha Davis of Ellabell and Nancy Jackson (David) of Savannah; 9 grandchildren, Lynea, Nathan, Lillie, Amrie, Blake, Avannah, Raymond, Selena and Hope and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 15, 2021 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Flanders Powell Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be held on Friday, July 16, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. in the Flanders Powell Chapel with Pastor Scott Howard and Chaplain Tammie Smith.
Burial will follow at Red Hill Cemetery.
