Howard Smith

Pembroke-  Howard Lee Smith, age 78 passed away Tuesday, November 16, 2021 at St. Joseph’s Hospital.  Mr. Smith was born May 25, 1943 in Pembroke to the late Grady Smith and Mary Frances Hawkins Smith.  He was a lifelong resident of Pembroke and retired as a welder from Omega Steel.  Mr. Howard loved sports, especially racing and the Atlanta Falcon.  He also enjoyed spending time with his friends at the Pembroke Senior Citizens Center and spending time with his family at the Smith Family Reunion Center.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his daughter, Barbara Gail Smith;  brothers, Julius Smith, Olan Smith and Rex Smith and sisters, Virginia Reddick and Juanita Craven.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry Lee and Joan Smith of Ellabell and Ronald Ray and Danya Smith of Pembroke; sister, Catherin DeLoach of Pt. Wentworth and grandchildren, Brandi Smith, Dallas Smith, Hunter Smith, Erica Watts, Ronald Ray Smith, Jr., Victoria Lauren, Allen Powell, Lance Thigpen, Jordan Thigpen, Jimmy Lumley, Ashley Icard  and Kami Stuckey; great grandchildren, Preston Smith, Dalton Icard, Olivia Icard, Alyssa Thigpen, Gracie Thigpen, Toni Thigpen, Kylie Lumley, Rylie Lumley, GA Lumley, and C.J. Lumley, Hayden Smith, Rebecca Smith, Raylee Smith, Mileena Smith, Grant Watts and Gage Watts and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held 5-8 P.M. Thursday, November 18, 2021 at the funeral home.

Funeral service will be 10 A.M. Friday, November 19, 2021 in the chapel of Flanders Powell Funeral Home with Pastor Stan Tyson officiating.

Burial will follow at Ash Branch Cemetery.
