Hollie Queen

Hollie Queen was born and raised in Lilburn, Georgia, where she grew up in a house full of strong women. She was the daughter of Dorian Brooks Dillard and the loving sister to two beautiful, talented, and intelligent women, Micki Madison and Nina Fontana.

A lifelong learner, Hollie received her Bachelor’s in Early Childhood Education from the University of West Georgia in 1983. She continued her education, earning a Master’s in Early Childhood Education from Bruneau University. Hollie was in the process of completing coursework for her Doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction when she passed. Over the course of her distinguished 32-year career in education, Hollie worked in elementary schools, dedicating more than 20 years to teaching 2nd and 3rd grade. Her passion for teaching led her to also serve as an Early Childhood professor at Chattahoochee Technical College and Kennesaw State University. During her time teaching at Suwanee Elementary, Hollie was honored with the title of Teacher of the Year. She was also named Professor of the Year at Chattahoochee Tech. Hollie’s commitment to education extended beyond the classroom; she assisted the Georgia Department of Education in reviewing grants for schools statewide. Her love of learning remained ever-present in her life, as she regularly helped her grandchildren with their homework and projects. She also enjoyed collaborating with her daughter Dorian to create lesson plans and grade papers.

Hollie’s heart was filled with love for her two children, Dorian Reagan and Dara Baker. She dedicated herself to providing everything for her girls, from dance practices and piano lessons to softball games and church activities. As they grew older, Hollie’s love for her children continued to grow, and she opened her home and heart to Dorian and Dara’s dear friend, Lindsey Marshall, when she was just 16 years old. Hollie was not only a dedicated single mom who taught during the day, but she also supported her daughters and their friends in all of their extracurricular endeavors, including singing performances throughout the Atlanta area. When she wasn’t attending auditions or recording sessions, Hollie could be found at home, reading one of her favorite books.

Hollie often said that becoming a grandmother was the role she was born for. Her love for her grandchildren was immeasurable. Hollie poured everything she had into her grandchildren, whether it was picking up Milo from school, taking Gavin on music-filled drives, enjoying coffee dates with Makenna, taking Liam on ice cream runs, or spending time with Olivia. To her grandchildren, she will always be MiMi. She was also known as MiMi to Aubrey Cannon who poured her love, kindness, and compassion in everything MiMi needed these last few months.

Hollie is survived by her mother, Dorian Dillard (Erwin); daughters, Dorian Reagan (Russell) and Dara Baker (Terry); bonus daughter, Lindsey Marshall (David); sisters, Marilyn Madison (Keith) and Nina Fontana (Ralph); grandchildren, Milo Baker, Gavin Reagan, Makenna Reagan, Liam Reagan, and Olivia Lott; nieces and nephew, Samantha Tudor (Bobby), Alan Baker, Andrea Ball, Lillian Caras (James), and Isabella Baker; as well as a wonderful extended family of aunts, uncles, and cousins.
