Herman L. Golding, age 54 passed away Sunday, Feb. 26, 2017 at his residence. Mr. Golding was born at Portsmouth Naval Hospital in Portsmouth, VA on Feb. 7, 1963 to the late David R. Golding, Sr. and Maggie Mae Bath Golding. He accepted Christ at Hacklebarney Baptist Church in Blackshear and attended school in Blackshear. Herman played trumpet in the Blackshear Band and participated in track and field at Screven High School, where he earned his letter. He was consistently on the honor roll and was Valedictorian of his 1981 graduating class.
Mr. Golding continued his education at the University of Georgia and later at Georgia Southern College. In 1981, Herman joined the Army National Guard and retired after 20 years of service. He served in both Desert Storm and Desert Shield and was later called back to active duty, stateside. He also worked as a hotel manager or assistant manager for numerous hotels in the Savannah area over the last 25 years.
Mr. Golding was proceded in death by his father, David R. Golding, Sr.; three brothers, Martin, David, Jr. and Mickey Golding.
Survivors include his mother, Maggie Mae “Doll” Bath Golding of Ellabell, one brother, Joe Golding of Blackshear; one sister, Hazel Golding of Brooklet and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A memorial service will be held Friday, March 3, 2017 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Flanders Morrison Funeral home with Rev. Clint Sullens officiating.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
