Pembroke, Georgia- Hazel Theresa “Mary” Foss, age 70, passed away on Saturday, October 9th to be with God (who she had her faith in) with her family by her side in Charleston, South Carolina.
Mary was born on Sunday, December 17th, 1950 to Mr. Andrew Francis Bowers and Mrs. Lillian “Lily” Bowers in Maryland. She was the youngest of five children. Since Mary was the baby of the family, her parents were extremely devoted to her.
She grew up on a dairy farm and loved the country life. As a young girl she fell in love with horses and was rode as often as she could. She attended Sacred Heart Catholic School in Reisterstown, Maryland.
After graduating from Sacred Heart, her family moved to Baltimore, Maryland. This is where she met her future husband, Edmond W. Foss. She noticed a green Mach I Mustang, and then the handsome young Italian man it belonged to. They dated for three months and were married on Saturday, September 27th, 1969 in Glen Burnie, Maryland.
They welcomed their only child, Gina Ann Marie on Saturday, June 26th 1971. Two days later Gina was handed to her father, on his birthday, and was told, “No exchanges, or refunds.”
For many years Mary operated as a bartender and was known for her cocktails. During this time, she met many famous people. She was extremely proud to be President of the Elvis Presley Fan Club for Baltimore and met Elvis Presley multiple times.
Mary, Edmond, and Gina moved to Richmond Hill, Georgia to be closer to Edmond’s extended family. Mary fell in love with Georgia and made close friends in Richmond Hill as she volunteered at St. Anne’s Catholic church, the local schools, and the first animal shelter in the area. Her family later moved to Pembroke, Georgia.
Mary made many friends, but amongst the closest to her heart are Gaby Hall, Tina Dopp, Darlene Shuman, Wanda Price Williams, Debbie Kyria Kides, and Darlene & Thomas Sanders. She also maintained a special friendship of 57 years with her childhood friend, Joann Coti.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents, Andrew & Lily Bowers; sisters, Cookie and Dianne; and a brother, Buddy.
She leaves behind a life of memories to be cherished by her husband of 52 years, Edmond Foss, and her only child, Gina Ann Marie Morgan (Richard Morgan).
Additional survivors include her three grandchildren; Victoria Foss Hall (Clay Hall), Andrew Charles Bright, and Richard Douglas Morgan III; her great-grandchild, Alayna Lynn Bright; and an honorary grandchild, Samantha Sheard. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, and her friends who she loved and cared for very much.
Mary had a love for all animals, and especially her beloved pets. They were faithful, loving companions and like children to her. She is survived by her three cats, Samantha, Harry, and George; and two dogs, Fred and Sparky.
Mary was a bright light who loved so many, and she will always be missed. She now rests in the arms of Jesus and has finally gone home to be with her parents and the family that she has missed.
