Gwendolyn Strickland

Mrs. Gwendolyn Owens Strickland, age 75, passed away at East Georgia Regional Medical Center on Friday, May 21, 2021. Mrs. Strickland was born in Pembroke to the late Mr. & Mrs. O.H. and Ronella Floyd Owens on June 20, 1945. She was a member of the class of 1963 at Bryan County High School. Mrs. Strickland retired as the Chief of Contracting Division with 36 years of service from Fort Stewart and later joined the Development Authority of Bryan County as a tremendous asset to facilitate the creation of the Interstate Center Industrial Park. She was a member of the Pembroke United Methodist Church. She enjoyed crafting, reading novels, and spending her days in her greenhouse gardening; being awarded the “Yard of the Month” a number of times by the Pembroke Garden Club. Moments spent with her family meant the world to Mrs. Gwen, especially trips with her sisters and time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, David Ray Strickland and brother, Kenneth Owens and two infant sisters.

Survivors include two sons, David Ronald (Ronnie) Strickland and his wife Helen and Leslie Strickland; daughter, Amber Strickland and her fiancé, Scott Chavis all Pembroke; two sisters, Ellen Evans and Martha Umberger both of Warner Robins; two grandchildren, Candice DeLoach and her husband Daniel and Ashly Cowart and her husband Jeremy; and six great-grandchildren, RaeLynn DeLoach, David Ray DeLoach, Leanna Cowart, Addison Cowart, Scotty Chavis and Tyler Chavis.

Visitation will be held on Monday, May 24, 2021 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Flanders Powell Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 25, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Dan Bryant officiating.

Burial will follow at Northside Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Scott Chavis, Daniel DeLoach, Jeremy Cowart, Tyler Chavis, Mike Parker and Junior Williams.

Honorary pallbearers will be the Bryan County High School Class of 1963.
