Black Creek- Glennis Virginia Lee Powers, age 62 passed into eternal rest Saturday, January 30, 2016 at home following a lengthy illness. Glennis was born in Statesboro, GA, on Dec. 1, 1953 to Hubert and Virginia Hendry Lee. Glennis was a 1971 graduate of Bryan County High School. After graduation she met and married Donald R. Powers of Savannah. They had one son, Donald Stephen Powers, in 1991. She was a devoted wife and mother.
Glennis went on to graduate with honors from Valdosta State University and taught at the elementary level for several years. She impacted the lives of many children during her teaching career.
She and her husband, a United Methodist minister in the South Georgia Conference, served a number of United Methodist churches in the South Georgia Conference for twenty years. Glennis gave generously of her time and talents to the churches they served, often serving as the church pianist.
Glennis loved her family and friends and delighted in spending time with the children. She enjoyed a lifetime love of writing stories and poetry and had a number of pieces published. She also enjoyed traveling when her health permitted.
Glennis was preceded in death by her husband of thirty-six years, Rev. Don Powers and her father, Hubert Lee.
She is survived by her son, Donald Stephen Powers, her mother Virginia Hendry Lee, brother, Anthony Lee (Betty), sister, Iris Sims (Dale), brothers-in-law, Bill Powers (Kay) and Randy Waldron. Glennis also had many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive visitors on Monday, February 1, from 5 -8 P.M. at Flanders Morrison Funeral Home in Pembroke. Funeral service will be 11 A.M. Tuesday, Feb. 2, in the chapel of Flanders Morrison Funeral Home with Rev. Andy Brownly and Rev. Joe Leatherwood officiating. Interment will follow in Ellabell United Methodist Church Cemetery.
