Gladys Williford Marks

Mrs. Gladys Williford Marks, age 90 passed away Sunday, May 12, 2024 at her home.   Mrs. Marks was born in Gibson, GA to the late L.B. Williford and Myrtle Todd Williford.   She was a 1950 graduate of Portal High School, was a graduate of Draughn’s Business School and attended Asbury College.  Mrs. Marks was the secretary for Haynes Elementary School in Chatham County for 17 years.  She was a member of Bethany Church of Ellabell and was named Women of the Year for the church in 2013.  Mrs. Marks was also a member of the Pembroke Garden Club and American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.   She loved puzzles, gardening and was an avid Atlanta Braves fan.   She was devoted to her family and especially enjoyed her time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.   In addition to her parents, Mrs. Marks was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, James J. Marks; two brothers, R.V. Williford and Ray Williford and two sisters, Mildred Williford Akins and Ruth Williford Deal.  

Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Jimmy Marks of Atlanta, Eddie and Angie Marks of Portal, Bill Marks of Pembroke, Jeff and Jana Marks of Pembroke, Stacey and Sharon Marks of Pembroke; one brother, Ralph Williford; one brother-in-law, Willie R. Marks of Charleston, SC; two sisters-in-law, Shelby Williford of Statesboro and Liz Williford of Aiken, SC; 13 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held 6-8 P.M. Tuesday, May 14, 2024 at the funeral home.  

Funeral service will be held 1 P.M. Wednesday, May 15, 2024 in the chapel of Flanders Powell Funeral Home with Rev. Clay Loadman officiating. 

Interment will follow in Brewton Cemetery.
