Brooklet-Ret. CMSGT James R. Ennis Jr. passed away Friday October 18, 2013 at Ogeechee Area Hospice surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Ennis was a native and long time resident of Ellabell and a member of First Baptist Church of Pembroke. He was retired from the U.S. Air Force with over 31 years of service and was a Bronze Star recipient for service during the Vietnam War. He was also stationed in Bermuda, Germany, Turkey, Japan, and twice in Portugal. Mr. Ennis retired with over 10 years of service as the audio-visual technician for many Georgia Southern University sporting events and was also responsible for the nursing department audio-visual at GSU. He was an avid football fan and loved spending time with his grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife of 52 years Shirley Ann Newman Ennis, a son James Ricky Ennis, a grandson Matthew Ennis, and his parents Reginald and Tressie Cowart Ennis.
He was survived by daughter Vickie Ennis of Statesboro, brothers and sister-in-laws Rondall and Fern Ennis of Brooklet, Jerry and Diane Ennis of Pembroke, sister and brother-in-law Marie and Buddy Polk of Pembroke; two granddaughters Candice and Rachel Tillman, and a number of cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Visitation is 4-7 P.M. Sunday October 20, 2013 at the funeral home. Funeral service will be 11 A.M. Monday October 21, 2013 in the chapel with Reverend Dan Bryant and Dr. Brad Butler officiating. Interment will follow in Lower Black Creek Cemetery with military honors. Flanders Morrison Funeral Home of Pembroke is in charge of arrangements.
