Claire Foltyn, age 83, passed away on Friday, July 15, 2022 at Augusta University Medical Center after a short illness surrounded by her family. She was born on April 11, 1939 to the late Leondis B. and Neva Bazemore Bunkley in Bulloch County. Claire, also known as MeeMee by some was a longtime native of Bulloch County. She grew up on her family’s farm, learning to pick cotton, tobacco and making syrup with her father. She graduated from Southeast Bulloch High School in 1957, where she found a passion for basketball despite her short stature. Shortly after high school she met the love of her life, Donald Foltyn, whom she was married to for forty years. She has three wonderful children who adored her. She had a green thumb when it came to flowers and plants. She loved gardening and canning her own vegetables. She loved all animals and made sure to spoil all that landed on her door steps. She retired from John Hancock out of Statesboro in 1994. After retiring, she dedicated all her time to her family. Family was the most important part of her life.
Claire was preceded in death by her husband, Donald James Foltyn; her parents, Neva and Leondis Bunkley and two brothers, Cyril and Leon B. Bunkley.
She is survived by her sister, Ann Deal and brother-in-law, Julian P. Deal, and sister-in-law, Marcy Bunkley. Left to cherish her memory are her children: Jenny Roach, Sue Lee, James (Buster) Foltyn and a daughter-in-law, Kimberly Foltyn. Forever missing her will be her grandchildren: Jessica Locklear, Ryan Jones, Brandon Roach, Josh Lee, Shelbi Ann Foltyn, Kaylee Hendley, Jayden Wood and two great grandchild, Karson Lee and Jocelyn Jones.
