Mr. Charles A. Spoon passed away on November 19th at Memorial Medical Center, Savannah, GA. Mr. Spoon was born September 11, 1924 to Marie Spohn in Rome, NY. His early years were spent living on Bull’s Island before entering the United States Army during WWII where he was stationed in the China/Burma/India Theater operating with the famous Merrill’s Marauders. Mr. Spoon returned to Rome after the war and began work as a civilian employee at Griffiss AFB. He moved to Littleton, MA when Rome Air Development Center transferred to Hanscom AFB in Bedford, MA. Mr. Spoon retired in 1980 from the federal government and return home to Rome, NY.
Mr. Spoon was a long-time resident of Springbrook Drive, Rome, NY before moving to Rincon, GA to live with his daughter, Patricia Hinman and her husband, Brian.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Helen Clark Spoon; mother, Marie Spohn, and brother, Larry Spoon.
Survivors include one son, Richard Spoon of Knoxville, TN; daughter, Patricia Hinman and son-in-law, Brian of Rincon, GA; grandson, Matthew Hinman and his wife Christine and great grandson Trevor of Blue Ridge, GA and very special nieces and nephew, Cheryl and Tom Spoon of Rome and Seda Spoon of Floyd.
Burial will be held privately at a later date at Mt. Olive Cemetery in Whitesboro, NY.
