Black Creek- Mr. Charles Raymond “Ray” Carter, age 75, passed away Sunday, June 21, 2015 at St Joseph’s Hospital. Mr. Carter received a Bachelors’ of Science in Industrial Management and a Master’s of Science in Environmental Systems Engineering, both from Clemson University. He also served as a security agent for the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict. Mr. Carter served many years in the engineering field. He was co-owner of Aspinwall and Carter Engineering Inc. for over 11 years and later worked with Hussey, Gay, Bell and DeYoung Engineering for over 10 years. He served as the appointed and/or consulting engineer for the Bryan County Board of Commissioners from mid 1990s through 2005. Prior to his retirement in 2010, Mr. Carter was a licensed Professional Engineer in South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama and North Carolina. He was a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, the National Society of Professional Engineers, the Exchange Club of West Chatham County, GA and the Cokesbury United Methodist Church in Savannah. Mr. Carter was a 32nd degree Master Mason, Landmark Lodge #76 F and AM of Charleston, SC and was a member of the Shrine Club.
Mr. Carter was an avid gardener, enjoyed reading and traveling and loved repairing electronics. He was an amateur Ham radio operator and loved spending time with his granddaughter, Sophie. Mr. Carter was preceded in death by his parents, Dalton Carter and Lucille Baker Carter Bunch.
Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Glenda Hendry Carter of Black Creek; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Todd and Kyle Carter of Seneca, SC and Shaun and Lisa Carter of Massanutten, VA; stepdaughter and son-in-law, Sandi Patat Feizi and Fariborz Feizi of Savannah; stepson and daughter-in-law, Eric Patat and April Patat of Alabaster, AL; brother and sister-in-law William E. and Leslie Carter of Youngs Island, SC; three grandchildren, Alex, Shayna and Sophie and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held 9 – 11 am Friday, June 26, 2015 at the funeral home. Funeral service will be held 11am Friday, June 26, 2015 in the chapel of Flanders Morrison Funeral Home with Rev. Royce Hendry officiating. Interment will follow in Ellabell Methodist Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the Ellabell Methodist Cemetery Fund.
