Catherine Christine “Tina” Simmons Blocker, Ph.D., age 73 passed away Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at her home. Dr. Blocker was born September 10, 1945 to the late Herbie L. and Mary Clark Simmons. She was a graduate of Mercer University, where she received her Liberal Arts Degree and was a member of Phi Mu Sorority and Georgia State University where she received her Master of Arts Degree and her Doctorate Degree. Dr. Blocker was retired as a college professor having taught at Georgia Institute of Technology and Armstrong State University. She formerly served as Education Director at Savannah Science Museum. Dr. Blocker enjoyed antiquing, art, woodcarving and fishing.
Survivors include her husband of 33 years, Larry M. Blocker of Richmond Hill; sons, Richard B. Smith of Atlanta, Andrew G. Smith of Ringgold and Grayson Blocker of Jacksonville; daughter, Jennifer C. Avery of Alpharetta; brother, Herbie L. Simmons, Jr. of Fayetteville; sister, Sadie Vee Simmons of Decatur and grandchildren, Boone Smith, River Smith, Molly Gazdziak, Summer Blocker and Haze Blocker.
